BRANDING / PHYSICAL PRODUCTION
WINTER 2024
PROJECT OVERVIEW
"APEX: Time to Hunt" is a card-based board game, where each player is trying to steal the assets of their late leader in order to take his position. Players take turns collecting item cards in order to exchange them for item tokens, while dealing with player-led conflicts along the way. The game ends when all tokens have been collected and whoever has the most wins!
PROCESS
For this project, myself, along with Bella Soth and Carlen Nielsen, were tasked to create a board game with whatever mechanics we wanted. We decided to combine a murder mystery story with the mechanics of card games like "Uno" and "Go Fish". We were inspired by the art deco movement of the 1910s and went with a gold, red and blue color scheme.
While everyone had a hand in every aspect of the project, my main focus was the game mechanics and assembly. We repurposed a Monopoly box and glued our box assets to each side, allowing gold to peek through the edges. The item tokens were assembled with sticker paper on paperboard and the main token was made with sticker paper and bookboard. The cards were made with sticker paper put together.
